PORSCHE – THE FOUNDERS

FERDINAND PORSCHE - FROM APPRENTICE-TINSMITH TO ENGINEER

The history of the company Porsche Holding Salzburg, part of which is Porsche Finance Group Bulgaria, begins in Bohemia, where Ferdinand Porsche was born in Maffersdorf on 3 September 1875. From an early age he showed an interest in electricity - at the age of 13 he installed electric bells in his parents’ home, and at the age of 16 he added electric lighting.

Although apprenticed as a tinsmith to his father, he began work at Bela Egger & Co. United Power Plants in Vienna, driven by his interests in technology. Shortly before the end of the century, he moved to Jakob Lohner - the court master of carriages and cars. At the Paris Exhibition in 1900, he presented the world's first four-wheel drive car. He is also the creator of the world's first hybrid car - it combines gasoline and electric drive.

Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, the creator of the Volkswagen "Turtle", draws his energy from the creative inspiration that has been his companion throughout his life.

The first Lohner-Porsche car became a sensation at the Paris Exhibition in 1900.

THE HEIRS OF PORSCHE - LOUISE AND FERRY

In 1906, Ferdinand Porsche, who had meanwhile married and fathered a daughter (Louise, *1904), moved to Austro Daimler in Wiener Neustadt, where three years later a son was born to him (Ferry, *1909).

Little Louise already in 1909 gets behind the wheel of a car built by her father.

1920: Son Ferry and his "little" Austro-Daimler with a 3.5 hp gasoline engine.

Louise Piech and Ferry Porsche (creator of the Porsche sports car) are the founders of Porsche Holding Salzburg. In 1949, they began importing and selling the Volkswagen Käfer (known in our country as the Volkswagen "Turtle") in Austria, and thus marked the beginning of the rise of Porsche Holding Salzburg.

Today, Porsche Holding Salzburg represents the Volkswagen AG concern in the trade of its brands both wholesale (as an importer) and retail (as a dealer), the financing of cars and their servicing.

Since March 2011, Porsche Holding Salzburg has been 100% owned by Volkswagen AG and applies the know-how it has developed over decades in the field of automotive business to the worldwide distribution of the concern.

By the end of 2019 31,900 employees work in the company, the number of new cars sold is more than 763,300, and the realized turnover is in the amount of EUR 22.2 billion.
